Spinboss Verification Explained: Showing Your Papers at the Door

Every UK casino has to know who you are before you play. Here is what Spinboss checks, which documents it accepts, how long reviews take and how to avoid the rejections that slow most players down.

Verification, often called KYC (“know your customer”), is the step that many players find the most frustrating at any UK casino. It is also unavoidable. Spinboss is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission (check the licence number in the casino’s footer), and that licence requires it to confirm who you are, how old you are and, at times, whether your spending is affordable.

This guide explains the whole process at Spinboss so you can get through it quickly. As an independent guide, we cannot check or approve documents ourselves; only the Spinboss verification team can do that.

When Spinboss verifies you, and why

There are three moments when checks happen:

  1. At signup. You give your name, date of birth, address, mobile number and email. Spinboss runs an automatic electronic check against credit-reference style data. It has no effect on your credit score. Most UK players pass instantly.
  2. Before your first withdrawal, or at thresholds. Spinboss asks for proof that the payment method is yours.
  3. When spending is larger or rises quickly. Source of funds and affordability checks may be triggered.

The reason is simple: since UKGC rule changes, operators must confirm age and identity before you deposit or play. This keeps under-18s out, protects against fraud and money laundering, and helps spot players who may be spending more than they can afford.

Accepted documents

If the automatic check at signup does not confirm you, or when payment proof is needed, these are the documents Spinboss typically accepts:

PurposeAccepted documentsKey requirements
Photo IDPassport or UK driving licenceValid, in date, all four corners visible
Proof of addressUtility bill or bank statementDated within the last 3 months; name and address match your account
Proof of payment (card)Photo of your debit cardMiddle digits covered; name and last four digits visible
Proof of payment (e-wallet)Screenshot of PayPal, Skrill or Neteller accountShows your name and account email
Source of fundsPayslips, bank statements and similarRecent, complete, unedited

Credit cards are not accepted for gambling in Great Britain, so you will only ever be verifying a debit card.

Photo quality tips

Most rejections are not about the document itself but about the picture of it. Before you upload:

  • Use good, even light. Daylight near a window works best; avoid flash glare on laminated cards.
  • Show all four corners. Do not crop the edges of the document.
  • Keep it flat and sharp. Put the document on a dark surface and hold the phone steady.
  • No edits or filters. Altered images are rejected straight away.
  • Upload the whole page for bills and statements, not just the address section.
  • Cover only the middle card digits. Leave your name and last four digits visible.

✓Upload early

You do not have to wait for a withdrawal to send payment proof. Uploading it soon after your first deposit means your first payout is not held up by a document request.

Source of funds and affordability checks

These checks are the part of KYC that players are least expecting. They are not an accusation of wrongdoing. UK rules require Spinboss to make sure gambling is affordable, especially where deposits are larger or rise quickly, and the same applies to VIP players in The Den Club.

Spinboss may ask for:

  • recent payslips or a pension statement;
  • bank statements showing income and outgoings;
  • evidence of savings, an inheritance or a property sale if that is where the money came from.

Until the check is complete, your account may be restricted from depositing or withdrawing. If you are asked for these documents and you would rather not share them, it may be a good moment to think about whether your current level of play is right for you. Verification timelines

CheckTypical time
Electronic check at signupUsually instant
ID and proof of address review24–48 hours
Payment method proof24–48 hours
Source of funds review24–48 hours, longer if follow-up questions are needed

Withdrawals then go through Spinboss’s own review of up to 24 hours. Our Spinboss withdrawal times page explains what happens next.

How to upload documents step by step

The process is the same whether Spinboss asked for ID, proof of address or payment proof:

  1. Log in and open your account menu, then the verification (or documents) section.
  2. Check which items are requested. Each one is usually listed separately with its status.
  3. Choose the document type that matches what you are uploading, for example “proof of address”.
  4. Take a fresh photo or select a PDF. Bank statements downloaded as a PDF from your online banking are usually accepted more readily than screenshots.
  5. Upload both sides of a driving licence if asked.
  6. Wait for the status to change from “pending” to “approved” or “rejected”. You will normally get an email too.
  7. If anything is rejected, read the reason, fix that specific issue and upload again rather than sending the same file.

Keep your account details up to date as well. If you move house or change your name, update your profile first, then upload documents that match the new details. A mismatch between the profile and the paperwork is one of the quickest ways to restart the 24–48 hour clock.

Why documents get rejected

If your upload comes back rejected, it is almost always one of these:

  • Proof of address is too old — it must be dated within the last 3 months.
  • Name mismatch — a nickname, maiden name or missing middle name on the account.
  • Address mismatch — you moved and did not update your account details.
  • Expired ID — passports and licences must be in date.
  • Blurry, cropped or glared images.
  • Mobile phone bills or screenshots of online statements that lack your full name and address.
  • Payment method in someone else’s name — this cannot be verified and can lead to a block.

Ask live chat exactly which document failed and why, then re-upload a corrected version. If the problem has escalated into a restriction, see our Spinboss account blocked guide.

Data security

Handing over a passport scan understandably makes people cautious. Spinboss must handle your data under UK GDPR and UKGC rules, and the privacy policy inside the casino explains how it is stored and for how long. To keep yourself safe:

  • upload documents only through the verification section inside your Spinboss account;
  • ignore emails or texts asking you to send ID by reply or to a third-party link;
  • never share your password, full card number or CVV;
  • turn on 2-step verification by SMS for extra protection on your account.

If verification is going in circles, our Spinboss troubleshooting hub sets out the escalation path, from live chat to a formal complaint and, if needed, IBAS.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to verify my identity before playing at Spinboss?

+
Yes. UK Gambling Commission rules require Spinboss to verify your age and identity before you can deposit or play, not just before you withdraw. Most players pass automatically through an electronic check at signup using their name, date of birth and address. If that check cannot confirm you, Spinboss asks for a photo ID and proof of address instead.

Does the Spinboss identity check affect my credit score?

+
No. The automatic check at signup uses credit-reference style data to confirm your name, age and address, but it is a soft identity check rather than a credit application. It does not leave a mark that lenders can see and has no impact on your credit score.

How long does Spinboss take to verify documents?

+
Reviews normally take 24–48 hours once you have uploaded everything requested. Clear, complete documents are the biggest factor in speed. Blurry photos, cropped edges or an out-of-date proof of address are the most common reasons a review has to start again. Source of funds checks can take a little longer if Spinboss needs to ask follow-up questions.

Why is Spinboss asking for payslips or bank statements?

+
These are source of funds and affordability checks. UK rules require casinos to make sure spending is affordable, particularly when deposits are larger or rise quickly. Spinboss may ask for recent payslips, bank statements or similar evidence. It is a standard regulatory step rather than an accusation, and the account may be restricted until the check is complete.

Is it safe to upload my passport to Spinboss?

+
Spinboss is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and must handle personal data under UK GDPR. Upload documents only through the verification section inside your account, never by replying to an unexpected email or message. Cover the middle digits of any bank card, and never send your password, full card number or CVV.
